Couples Counselling
Couples counselling is for couples who have become stuck or disconnected and want to spend time finding out how to re-connect and grow awareness in a safe space.
I work with couples on a wide range of issues, such as communication, parenting, addiction, affairs, and finance difficulties. I have experience working with couples where ADHD and Autism have been diagnosed or suspected.
Research shows that many couples find they grow closer in couples counselling. For couples who have decided to separate, I can work with you to work out the best way forward.
Couples counselling is a positive step forward in improving communication and often means a commitment to change.
My Approach
My work involves exploring the roots of disconnection with you both. I use an integrative approach to work flexibly to cultivate empathy, acceptance, understanding, and connection.
An important part of couples counselling is highlighting the impact of the past on you as individuals, and working to disentangle and understand it to create meaning in the present.
Couples who have difficulties communicating and may be caught in cycles of accusations or misunderstanding will often turn to counselling for help.
What is involved?
I will work with both of you as individuals and together on the dynamic of the relationship.
Both of you will be involved right from the beginning. We will all meet initially to discuss issues in the relationship, the aims of the sessions, and I will explain how we will work going forwards. Couples counselling is a commitment of at least four to six sessions, and often means attending regular sessions together. Couples often commit to at least four sessions. I can also offer a one day intensive session with couples, please do contact me for more information.
I value and welcome open communication within our counselling relationship to ensure you feel on track.
